NYC Heating Season Begins October 1st
October 1st marks the beginning of heating season in NYC. As a reminder, engineers maintain temperatures at or above 70° during the day (only when the outside temperatures drops below 55°) and 66° at night, regardless of outside temperatures.
Heat is delivered by a single-pipe system, traveling up through kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Temperature throughout the building is monitored and regulated using sensors.
Some tips for the season:
-
- Place a thermometer in the center of the living room or bedroom to measure the ambient temperature. Avoid placing it near the window or pipes, this skews the reading. Thermometers are available at Resident Services (276 First Avenue Loop) or Public Safety (2 Stuyvesant Oval).
- If your thermometer is reading below the set points, call Resident Services. If we are unable to address the issue remotely, an engineer will be dispatched to your home.
- We can only help if we can into the apartment, so you must be home for any heat-related appointments.
- Please refrain from using a space heater, these are serious fire hazard and can skew the heat sensors, which prevent us from maintaining heat throughout the building.
- Never use your oven as a heat source, this is a life safety hazard that poses a carbon monoxide risk as well as risk of apartment fires.
AC Charge Update from DHCR
Effective October 2025, the new monthly charge is $36.12 per AC unit, an increase of $1.24. The change will be reflected on your rent bills starting in November 2025, including an adjustment for the October rate difference. Please email or call Resident Services with any questions.
